Description Sam Morris 2007-08-14 18:49:35 UTC
Let's say I have a DVD mounted, and I have a nautilus window open at /media/dvd. If I eject this DVD, the Nautilus window will change to displaying /home.

I think it would be better if the contents of the window changed to indicate that the location that I was browsing is no longer available... something resembling a web browser's error page, perhaps.

This problem gets worse when inserting and removing DVDs or other media repeatedly (e.g when searching through a stack of DVDs for some file).

When inserting some removable media, a new nautilus window will appear. When it gets removed, the window changes to display your home directory.

When this gets repeated you end up with numerous windows all showing your home directory. This clutters up the desktop and becomes confusing.

Nautilus should either close the window when the underlying filesystem goes away, or at least reuse windows so you don't end up with multiple views of the home dir.
