GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 466565
Show pie chart for non-root dirs too
Last modified: 2012-08-21 03:44:28 UTC
Free space is always (well, maybe not always?) printed in the status bar. Why not always show the pie chart in the properties dialog too?
Perhaps with one aditional slice representing the dir/file. But I don't know, I'm starting to think this is a bad idea.
I for one is interested in being able to see which types of files/directories are taking more space. It would have tremendous utility for me for sure.
This would probably be the use-case for a Baobab Nautilus extension, per bug 439900.
Ugh! Overkill IMHO. (And personally, I never really understood exactly what Baobab is displaying.)

I am the author of the duplicate bug, sorry about that. My idea is that could be possible to show the same graph with a sector showing folder size inside the yellow sector. I think there could be a way to do it visually simple. For example, adjusting one of the sides of the folder size sector with one of the total used space sector, and, add a padding to the total space sector, or, a margin to the folder size sector. Of course the folder size sector is impossible to be bigger than the total size sector, the extreme case is select all the folders and files in the mount point and show their properties, and the two sectors will have the same size of course. When I say folder I mean also typical files. I suggest to make the new sector green, but this is only cosmetic xDD,
enhancement as dependency bug 439900 is an enhancement too.
We already show the free space in the properties dialog. I don't think it makes sense to show a pie chart for the entire volume on every directory.
