GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 465516
Impossible to switch cells with the left and right keys
Last modified: 2011-02-04 16:11:04 UTC
In previous versions of gtk, pressing left and right used to switch between cells in a row. Now it emits a beep and does nothing. Two good examples are gconf-editor and quodlibet's tag editor. It is impossible to edit both the name and value of a tag by using the keyboard.
Did you try ctrl+left and ctrl+right? The left, right key bindings have been changed to expand/collapse rows.
Aha. Yes, that works. It's...less than obvious, though. Would it be possible to make left and right switch cells if there are no rows to open?
I am going to put this on the 2.12 freeze milestone to reconsider the change of keybindings. This because after having this in trunk for a while, I am not convinced whether changing it was a good idea. The straightforward way of scrolling horizontally with left/right is now also gone, which is a bigger loss than not being able to expand/collapse with left/rigth.
Original bug is 105895.
If we are not sure the change is right, then we should probably revert for 2.12.
Reverted in r18768.
