GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 460757
Black video when Compiz is enabled
Last modified: 2009-07-18 18:42:54 UTC
(This might be a GStreamer, Xorg or Xorg-ATI driver bug. Don't know really...) When running with Compiz in Gutsy, the video in Totem (GStreamer backend) is black. It works in other video players (MPlayer, gst-launch...though gst-lauch has other problems, see bug 460047) with XV enabled.
Which video card? Could you please attach the Device section of your xorg.conf as well please?
Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Technologies Inc M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]" Driver "ati" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection
You probably need to use the EXA acceleration to avoid this sort of problems, just like with other drivers, as with XAA the driver doesn't have any ways to make sure the video is drawn offscreen. And EXA probably doesn't work that well, depending on the drivers... Try using EXA for acceleration, and report a bug at freedesktop.org against the driver if it crashes/eats your data.
Just wondering, why does it work with other players and not Totem? (They all use XV.)
I have no idea. Does it work with gst-launch using playbin?
Yes, I mentioned bug 460047 in the first comment. :)
Huh, reopening, and pushing to GStreamer. No idea why it would do that...
Does this work now?
Don't know. Different hardware and compiz just crashes when I try to enable it. Marking as incomplete.
