Description Sika 2007-06-24 12:17:09 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Using brasero 0.5.90 on ubuntu feisty.
When I insert any cd (blank cd-r, cd-rw, commercial audio/data cd) in my LG CED-8080B, brasero keep saying "no disc" whatever I want to do (blanking a cdrw or burning an audio or data cd).
I cannot burn any cd!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert a cd
2. Launch brasero, try to blank the cd or to burn it

Actual results:
the dialog says "no disc"

Expected results:
It should properly recognize the medium and allow (or not) to burn/blank it.

Does this happen every time?
yes

i assume you're using libburn backend, can you try to reproduce with the cdrtools backend instead ?
Comment 2 Sika 2007-07-02 11:33:57 UTC
No, I don't use libburn...
I don't know if it is related but I'm also concerned by this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/66254

I've applied the workaround proposed there and it works with nautilus.
But brasero don't want to see my media.

might be a hal problem not related with brasero the new lib is trying to get this kind of stuff done. I'll investigate about this.
Thanks

I think it's indeed an HAL problem; we still partially rely on HAL to get disc information (in particular at the start to get a list of drives with disc inside). Which means that if HAL isn't working properly and not recognizing any disc as it seems to be the case, then brasero won't probe the drive and tell there is no disc inside.

FYI, in the launchpad bug, there is a patch at the end that's been sent upstream to HAL, but no comment yet.

Closing this bug it doesn't seem a brasero problem it looks more hal stuff. Reopen if you found that is something related with brasero.
