Description Daniel Skov Klejnstrup 2007-06-03 12:08:57 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Using The GIMP the "normal way" - with a mouse causes NO problems at all, but when I enable my tablet as a device in The GIMP, I can only draw inside the drawing-window - I cannot select any items from the tool-window - Well the rest of my User Interface doesn't function! - Not even KDE itself! - I can ONLY use the mouse inside the drawing-window! - It's like everything else has freezed! - Though a GIMP shutdown (Alt+F -> Close) gets everything back to normal!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run the latest edition of any ubuntu flavor (that's where the issue started - but probably because of a newer GIMP version?)

2. Install a wizardpen-tablet using this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TabletSetupWizardpen

3. Open the GIMP, activate the tablet in the "Settings -> Pointing devices -> Configure pointing devices"

4. Open the drawing-window and draw with the tablet pen... Try to pick another tool... Try to close the GIMP by clicking the "X" - Try to access your Start-menu... give up, and press "Alt+F -> Close"

Actual results:
You end up having nothing working, and the only way to get back to using the GIMP is to inactivate the tablet, and go back to using the mouse!

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?
Yes, everytime the tablet is plugged in and enabled in the GIMP.

I have tested the tablet with Krita (I use KDE in Kubuntu) - It works fine, so it's not something with the tablet-driver itself!

I'm willing to send a Wizardpen (In this case, from UC-LOGIC) Tablet to a developer, If it will help things!

It will be this tablet:

InkScape 0.45 has exactly the same problem as described in the bug.

You should check if bug #145108 or bug #341937 does apply here - this one might be a duplicate.
Comment 4 Sven Neumann 2007-06-04 11:38:41 UTC
This is most likely not a GIMP problem, so there's nothing we can do. Setting the report to NEEDINFO until the bug reporter has checked if the other bug reports apply here.

I just installed my Tablet (Genius Mousepen 8x6, Model WP8060U) (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TabletSetupWizardpen) and I am able to draw in GIMP with full pressure sensitivity...... until it it freezes.

GIMP has always worked great with the mouse. I have had no problems with it.

But when I use my tablet with GIMP, my system basically freezes. I can't do anything but use my stylus to draw in the window. Only my stylus works for drawing in the window, though, nothing else.

In addition to that, I can not use my stylus, regular mouse, or the mouse that came with my tablet to click on or do anything else, not even click on things in GIMP.

Though I can't interact with anything during the freeze, I'm still able to talk on skype.

Hortencia, please have a look at the bugs mentioned in comment #3 and tell us if one of them might be what you are experiencing.
