GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 440546
Problems with the test pages
Last modified: 2012-02-28 15:52:12 UTC
[ http://bugs.debian.org/379510 ] Several Debian users have reported that test pages from gnome-cups-manager never gets printed. The CUPS developers pointed out a problem with the test pages; "Your sample file pretends to be an EPS file intended to be placed onto some page; it is not a "standalone" PS job. Though the usage of b4_inc_state violates the DSC from a PS job point of view, if properly placed as an EPS file according to the rules to do so specified in the PLRM (2nd edition, IIRC), the file should be OK." http://www.cups.org/str.php?L2175
Same thing happens with letter-size test pages. It would seem that this bug is pretty serious as it misleads the admin/user to assume something is wrong with the config (since the "print test page" fails) when there isn't. This causes lots of hair tearing...
Would this error sometimes show as the following textual example: ERROR NAME; undefined COMMAND: ESPwl OPERAND STACK; I believe I'm experiencing the same if that is the case. I also believe there could be a broader set of cups related failures in gnome applications, nearly every application using gnome that interacts with cups seems to be erroring out in some way. Gnome version is 2.18.1 dont have debug versions of anything to work with.
Moving all gnome-cups-manager bugs to new product. Filter on Kjartan's spring cleaning.
"gnome-cups-manager" will not see active development anymore according to its developers. Closing this report as WONTFIX - Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
