GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 439400
Shortcut key to move windows to next monitor (using a multi monitor setup)
Last modified: 2020-11-07 12:35:44 UTC
When using multi monitor, it would be nice if you could move windows around using shortcut keys such as ctrl + alt + down, or ctrl + alt + left. For example, I have two screens, positioned as so: __________ __________ | | | | | Screen 1 | | Screen 2 | |__________| |__________| When I have a window on screen 1, I can happily drag it to screen 2. But it would be nice ( and it would speed the use of the computer) if I had a shortcut key: ctrl + alt + right to move it instantly to screen 2 for me. This also works vice versa where I would use ctrl + alt + left to move a window from screen 2 to screen 1. Many thanks for your consideration of this enhancement.
FYI, you can already move windows to other adjacent workspaces with ctrl+alt+shift+{left, right,up,down}. There isn't AFAIK a shortcut to move a window to a workspace by number, however.
Agreed, although I don't know of any way to get a dual monitor setup to work with two workspaces (one on each monitor)
The way I understand Sam, he is not looking at a setup with two workspaces, just plain multi-monitor.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old feature requests in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you still use metacity and if you are still requesting this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be implemented.
