When I expand the "show" drop down list (all, filename, etc.) a bunch of empty lines are shown above the "all" line.

Confirmed.

This only seems to occur when the filter bar is close to the bottom of the screen (for instance, when the window is maximized), and scrolling arrows appear at the top and bottom of the list.

It doesn't happen if there is lots of space between the filter bar and the bottom of the screen.

Hmm. This is an intentional feature of gtkcombobox, rather than a bug... see bug 129463.
