GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 423183
Allow (permanent) downloading from DAAP shares
Last modified: 2007-03-27 03:14:54 UTC
It would be great if Rhythmbox could download and save music from a DAAP server to its own music library, saving the stream rather than just caching and deleting it. This feature is available in other DAAP clients like ourTunes and Get It Together, and similar to the Shoutcast stream-saving features available in XMMS, etc. It could present a preference to "Always Save Shared DAAP Music to My Library", or a "Play and save to library" context-menu option on shared music, wouldn't take much work I'd think. An added bonus is the possibility of pre-caching shared music by downloading it all ahead of time and then playing it locally, instead of streaming real-time. Rhythmbox is great! This could make it even more great. :) Thanks so much!
hm. I just realized that this feature is essentially available (in version 0.9.6) by selecting the music on the remote share and doing a Ctrl-C Copy, then highlighting the Library and doing a Ctrl-V Paste. Wow! I suppose I revise the request then, to merely provide a more obvious interface to this feature. But this is great! Although the transfer speed over my local network seems somewhat slower than in ourTunes.
You can drag and drop from a DAAP source to the Library too, so it works more or less as you might expect, so I don't really see a need to provide any extra UI for this (mention in the docs, however would be useful). Also, some bugs in this may have been fixed since 0.9.6, so you should consider upgrading to the latest, 0.9.8. Closing bug as duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 322268 ***
