GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 417470
handle outlook's broken localized RE:
Last modified: 2012-06-19 11:29:48 UTC
Non-English versions of MS Outlook have the nasty habit of using broken localisations of "RE:" in mail replies. The German version by default uses "AW:". As other mailers don't recognise this as a replacement for "RE:", this results in hideous subject lines such as: "RE: AW: Re: AW: RE: your mail" Yes, Microsoft is to blame for this, yes, they should fix this broken behaviour. But until we see http://bugzilla.microsoft.com, I wonder if Evolution developers might consider adding a workaround that Thunderbird already has: There is the (unofficial) config variable "mailnews.localizedRE", which can be set to something like "AW, Aw", which will then be handled by Thunderbird just as "RE". I would be fine if this was just accessible via gconf-editor.
you want to provide a patch? :-) Feel free to also comment on bug 424818.
We are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in version 3.4 - see bug 661087 comment 5 and comment 6. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 661087 ***
