GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 416102
Share a keyboard like x2x and x2vnc
Last modified: 2020-11-12 12:24:45 UTC
This bug was filed in the Debian BTS. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=329794 "It would be really nice if vino could also include some sort of keyboard sharing so that you could do the same sort of thing done by x2x and x2vnc. Situation: I have two computers, I enable "Allow remote keyboard" on the laptop. Then on the desktop turn on "Enable remote keyboard to PC" select the laptop from a list or manually enter it and I can then use keyboad and mouse across PC's."
This bug is similar to Bug 334088. I also agree that this should be an option. In Bug 334088, I offer some suggestions for allowing x2vnc to connect to vino more efficiently without adding too much "confusion" as one developer suggested (although I think he underestimated users' ability to read man pages/help files, or developer's ability to add descriptive labels to checkboxes). It might also be useful to give vinagre the option to perform similar functionality as x2vnc, but I think it's more important to offer better bandwidth options for x2vnc and other similar vnc clients.
In the meantime, Lennart Poettering has written Mango Lassi, basically x2x for GNOME. http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/mango-lassi.html Nobody seems to have picked up development though, maybe it could be integrated into vino?
Vino is not under active development anymore and unmaintained. Please use gnome-remote-desktop instead. Closing this report as WONTFIX to reflect reality.
