With gmc you get a desktop-specific menu. With the nautilus approach you instead
get one that's operating on out desktop window.

This appears fixed in CVS HEAD, if I understand the bug.

Specifically, middle-clicking on the Desktop while Nautilus is running generates
the same "Windows, Workspaces, Programs, Customize, Help" context menu that
would appear if Nautilus weren't running.
