Yes, our font loading sucks. Not sure why. Is it still the case? Can you profile a bit, see what we're doing? Do those other terminals do font fallback too?
Two runs of time perf/random.sh each: xterm 303: real 0m26.521s user 0m0.027s sys 0m3.510s real 0m28.595s user 0m0.014s sys 0m3.511s vte master: real 0m26.543s user 0m0.020s sys 0m3.756s real 0m24.105s user 0m0.030s sys 0m3.714s
In my current testing, vte is taking only half the time xterm needs, and konsole is just a little faster than xterm. Closing as obsolete.
