Description dlai 2007-01-24 12:48:27 UTC
So this is really simple, I have not noticed this before but Totem-gstreamer is actually able to playback the TV stream coming from my pvr-150 tv card (ivtv, through /dev/.static/video0). This is really good since there is no really good gtk based client for watching tv with ivtv-based cards in gnome, therefore i wanted to ask if it would be possible to implement a client that implements channel changing by looking into the .tv/channels scantv folder....
It can't be hard!

See bug 358147 and bug 393981 (GStreamer and xine-lib, respectively).

Hmm... I would not believe that dvb and ivtv is the excact same problem... though many of the issues described in that bug could be nice to implement with any TV functionality in totem.
Comment 3 Bastien Nocera 2007-01-24 13:36:07 UTC
Huh, isn't ivtv just a driver for a DVB card, with a custom API (which means some custom applications existing for it)?
Comment 4 dlai 2007-01-24 14:06:09 UTC
DVB is digital video broadcast (as far as I know), and ivtv is made for pvr-150,350,550 cards which convert analog tv signals to mpeg streams... so that is essentially why it is possible to open /dev/videoX with totem...

Right, it's an old-style tuner card.
I guess this could be worked on as a plugin. Most of the content of bug 358147 comment 1 still apply though.

Yes
Comment 7 Bastien Nocera 2012-04-19 18:40:33 UTC
Nobody's done any work on bringing this to life in 5 years, and I have no plans on working on it, so closing.
