GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 396137
moderators group admin page
Last modified: 2010-10-24 03:26:21 UTC
A couple of years ago now, I started working on a moderator interface that presents all the moderator requests to all the moderated lists in one interface, to save the volunteer moderators from having to log into each list each time, and to more clearly identify and clear down patterns of spam. I never got round to it. A couple of times, I forwarded my half-baked version on to volunteers who have offered to try to pick it up and finish it, but as yet no-one (including me) has finished it. I still think this would rock and is well worth doing, so I'm writing it up as a ticket to track it more thoroughly.
There is already a tool to handle this called 'listadmin'. It is command-line and allows easy management of any number of lists. I've been setting it up to manage the huge number of lists here, so I'm going to close this ticket as a solution current exists.
Last time I tried that it didn't work.
I've found that it works for some lists and not for others. I think resolving whatever causes that inconsistency is a better solution than re-inventing the wheel and creating a new tool (which we'll have to maintain!).
Created attachment 173091 [details] [review] Reindent the file, ignore subscriptions This got queue moderation working for me on my test machine. I re-indented the file first because the combination of hard and soft tabs was getting to me. Then I just chucked away the subscription parsing.
Based on Raymond's findings and confirming listadmin functionality on two of my machines (Debian Stable and FreeBSD 8.1) I'm going to close this ticket. listadmin is simple to configure, manages multiple lists (I have _all_ lists configured in my installation) and readily available by most distributions. See http://blogs.gnome.org/sysadmin/2010/10/24/improved-mailman-list-moderation-with-listadmin/ for instructions as needed.
