GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 389375
crash in gnome-vfs-daemon-method.c:639 / dbus-pending-call.c:674
Last modified: 2018-08-17 13:49:33 UTC
What were you doing when the application crashed? this bug occurs when I try to connect remote smb filesystem via nautilus. I first saw this bug after my linux box updates dbus from 0.6.2 to 1.0.2. However, this is not shared link problem because I recompile whole packages after update. My system,Gentoo Linux, is using following packages: gnome-2.16.1 nautilus-2.16.3 gnome-vfs-2.16.3 gnome-keyring-0.6.0 Distribution: Gentoo Base System version 1.12.8 Gnome Release: 2.16.2 2006-12-07 (Gentoo) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0 Memory status: size: 331063296 vsize: 331063296 resident: 34217984 share: 23961600 rss: 34217984 rss_rlim: -1 CPU usage: start_time: 1167025191 rtime: 172 utime: 152 stime: 20 cutime:0 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/nautilus' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1". I miss one that a sequence of reproduction. First, type smb url on nautilus. Second, type both username and password on 'Authentication Required window' Third, click connect button, and then crash in nautilus.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!

Ahh sorry didn't know their was a dup - well bugbuddy just submitted I re-compiled all relevant packages with the nostrip FEATURE (so debug info present) as well as debug USE-flag where relevant Fluid jrb # FEATURES="nostrip" USE="debug" emerge dbus libc glib dbus-glib nautilus gtk+ gnome-vfs -vp These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! Decided to go for the gdb method (ie get the PID of nautilus) over the bugbuddy method Once I tried accessing a SMB-share (ie at the point I entered the relevant passwd) this got spat out in the gdb window Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. I wish I could help, but I can't as the system that I was doing this on, has a hard drive failure.

(In reply to comment #14) > the initial trace looks lika a dup of bug 377826 to me . any thoughts? Yes, it does and "conectando con servidor samba" means "connecting to a samba server" It's the same that happens to me. favio livra com

Just a note here: This does *not* happen with gnome 2.17.92 (so nautilus 2.17.92 and gnome-vfs-2.17.91). I did a bit of backporting of changes, and only managed to get dbus to core elsewhere.

gnome-vfs got deprecated in 2008. gnome-vfs is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes in 2011. Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-vfs/commits/master gio (in glib) and gvfs are its successors. See https://developer.gnome.org/gio/stable/ch33.html and https://people.gnome.org/~gicmo/gio-migration-guide/ for porting info. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Feel free to open a task in GNOME Gitlab if the issue described in this task still applies to a recent + supported version of glib/gio/gvfs. Thanks!
