GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 384238
charset translation do not work on some OS for some users
Last modified: 2007-04-26 23:53:34 UTC
tested OS include SuSE 10.0 and Solaris 10. Tested platform include Sun Ultrasparc 10 and i386. Following behavior is taken from test on Solaris 10. SuSE result is similiar. Reproduce: 0) set remote_charsets=GB18030 (local locale is zh_CN.UTF-8) 1) run gftp, server side is Serv-U running on Windows server Simplified Chinese version (charset is GB18030); 2) junk text after login. All foder names and file names containing Chinese character display junk. Error message: bash-3.00$ gftp 在将字符串“331-Ӱ콢ϲǨַ210.34.4.16ӭأת档 ”从字符集 <未知> 转换成字符集 UTF-8 时出错:转换过程中出错:Error 0 (gftp-gtk:3678): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtktextbuffer.c: line 698: assertion `g_utf8_validate (text, len, NULL)' failed (gftp-gtk:3681): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtktextbuffer.c: line 698: assertion `g_utf8_validate (text, len, NULL)' failed (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() (gftp-gtk:3681): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() Note I also tried to set locale to gb18030, gb2312, GB2312 (GB2312 is a subset of GB18030). All of them are acceptable to iconv (is gftp using iconv lib?) but do not work for gftp. I consider this is major bug because for most people in Asian this means gftp is not usable.
Welcome to test direclty on our ftp server. Here is how to access: 1) configure gftp: ftp_proxy_host=realss.6600.org ftp_proxy_port=8021 proxy_config=SITE %hh%nUSER %hu%nPASS %hp%n 2) access ftp://xmumusic:xmumusic@xmumusic.realss.com 3) welcome text is in Chinese, this is where you can check for this bug; 4) enter /pop folder, half of directories in this folder are Chinese (= junk text); remote charset is GB18030 Make sure you have Chinese font installed before testing this, so you know when the display is correct. Recommend font is CJK Unifont, download from http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software_2fCJKUnifonts (or use your OS's package management system to install it, search for 'cjkunifont' or 'uming')
I've been told that this is fixed in the latest code in subversion. Can you confirm? I put a tarball up with the latest code at http://www.gftp.org/gftp-test.tar.bz2.
My congratulations! It's working now. Now we can access campus ftp folder! Finally. But shouldn't this be possible some 4 years ago? Ah. I hope in the future localization is always handled better! :-)
Hi, Weiwu Did you test it thoroughly? AFAICT, I didn't get as good results as you. Please read my comments on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156371 for more details.
