GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 383543
Evolution: When a newsgroup folder ...
Last modified: 2009-05-20 15:05:17 UTC
What were you doing when the application crashed? When a newsgroup folder is selected and the "New" toolbar button is pressed or Control+N is pressed to enter a new message composition window, it selects the correct identity, but does not have a Post-To header. Instead, to get the desired (expected) behavior, one must go to Message->Post New Message to Folder. This is terribly annoying when working with high-volume NNTP folders (such as an online classroom environment where new posts happen frequently). When an NNTP folder is selected, New Message should automatically "Post New Message to Folder" instead of making the user go out of the way to either select the "Post New Message to Folder" menu option (which I just found for the first time, myself), or manually adding a Post-To: header and filling it in after pressing Control+N for a new message composer window. Distribution: Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) Gnome Release: 2.16.1 2006-10-02 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0
Meh. I am not terribly sure why it did this, but Bug Buddy added something about the application crashing in there; just wanted to reaffirm that this is not the case. It is more a user interface issue than a software crash.
Confirmed. NNTP support in evolution isn't really the best or most well maintained, so I would suggest using pan for NNTP instead.
I realize that there is a great deal to be desired in NNTP stuffs in Evolution, but, well, I need an integrated thing. I’m using this to go to school, so it helps to have everything contained in one application. Somewhat unrelated, I seem to be filing a lot of feature requests and the like (in various GNOME- and non-GNOME-related projects), and they seem to be things that aren’t likely to be fixed any time soon. *shrugs* I suppose I should learn how to implement things… :-)
Still an issue in Evolution 2.22.0.
