GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 379150
file name issue by 'Save a copy' and using 'Browse for other folders'
Last modified: 2008-03-13 10:03:31 UTC
Please describe the problem: OS is Winxp SP2 Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Gimp and create a new image or open any image 2. Save a copy and use the 'Browse for other folders' extension and select a n already existing file from the list and press 'Save' 3. Select again 'Save a copy' The file name on top of the dialog box is only visible for less then one second (no matter if the 'Browse for other folders' menu extension is visible or not). The drop down list which appears after typing in the first strings of the file is getting longer and longer with each save action (a long list with always the same file name) Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
Probably a GTK+ problem. Does this still happen with GIMP 2.3.13? What version of GTK+ are you using?
This happens with Gimp 2.3.13 as well. I use GTK 2.10.6.
I can't reproduce this with GIMP 2.3.18 (which does come with GTK+ 2.10.13).
Heiko, have you tried a newer GTK+? 2.10.14 is the latest.
Tor, Sorry for the late answer. My email address has changed I forgot to change my account accordingly. I just tried it with GTK+ 2.10.14. But still the same. What I not said before is that this only happens by choosing of another 'Place'. If there exists a folder structure like for example c:/folder1/folder2 and there is a file xyz in folder2. 1.) Open this file. 2.) Then choose save as or save a copy 3.) and now the maybe most important step, choose another place for example C:\ Now the name of the file disappears. I think this is not ok and the same happens with inscape as well. Lets say I want to keep the file name why the name should disappear only because I choose another folder. I assume this could be the trigger for further trouble at least under Windows. Under Ubuntu the name disappears as well but the following happens under Windows only. Now while no file name is visible I browse for a desired folder and then I want to overwrite an already existing file, I choose this file from the list and press 'Save'. So now after doing some changes I now want to save this file again. I select save a copy and for a very short moment is a 'flickering' in the name field which finally remains empty. I type in the first letters of the file name and a list pops up from which I can select the file. With each further 'save a copy' action this list with filenames gets longer and longer. If I select for the 10th time 'save a copy', type in the first letters I see 10 times one and the same file name. If I have for example 10 different files in that folder there are finally a list of 100 file names displayed, each file name 10 times. So it concerns all files which are currently in the folder. I had already situations (very rare) where the file name in the name field did not disappear. I already thought is could have something to to with the structure of the folder (how many folders) or with the length of the folder names or so but these are only assumptions. Hope this helps somehow.
I have now Gimp 2.4.5 intalled with GTK 2.12.8 and the problem has disappeared. Thank you!
