Description Oded Arbel 2006-09-19 12:51:22 UTC
Please describe the problem:
As above. When deleting a message, another message should be automatically selected (unless there are no more messages in the folder). This happens properly when not using "Group by threads" view, or when deleting 2 messages or more at the same time from a threaded view - but not when deleting a single message.

Steps to reproduce:
1. From the "View" menu, mark "Group by threads".
2. Select a message
3. Hit <DEL>

Actual results:
The message is deleted, but no other message is selected.

Expected results:
After the message was deleted, a new message should be automatically selected.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
This is on an IMAP folder.

Confirming.

The culprit appears to be the "hide deleted messages" flag referenced in bug #356533.

Consider the following tests performed on messages viewed in an external window:

"hide deleted messages" off && "group by threads" on ==> OK
"hide deleted messages" off && "group by threads" off ==> OK

"hide deleted messages" on && "group by threads" on ==> BAD
"hide deleted messages" on && "group by threads" off ==> BAD

where OK => advance to next available message [all is well]
BAD => window clears, window remains blank, menu buttons are dead.

Comment 6 Oded Arbel 2006-09-21 07:24:51 UTC
Yes, apparently disabling "hide deleted messages" causes the next deleted message to be selected when deleting a message, which is many times a deleted message (which shouldn't be the case, IMO - auto-selection of another message should never choose a deleted message).

You'd think that the problem was that evo is trying to select a deleted message but since its not visible it removes the selection, but the behavior is consistant even when no "hidden" deleted message is around - it just turns off selection regardless of whether a deleted message would have been selected or not.

Also - I can't reproduce this problem when "group by threads" is off, even when "hide deleted messages" is on, so I think that "hide deleted messages" is contributing to the problem but is not the actual issue.

Srini: Probably due to the "New messages appear on top" style threading ?

Fixed and will be there in 2.8.1
