Description apf 2006-09-13 05:12:07 UTC
Tools such as Google Desktop's sidebar provide a small panel displaying the sender name and subject of new e.-mail messages as they arrive. This is extremely useful for users as it means they are alerted to new messages and can quickly read them without needing to switch back to Evolution constantly, interrupting their workflow.

E.-mails can be read by clicking on a slider which brings the entire message out.

The time the e.-mail was received is also indicated (such as "2 hrs ago".) Filters exist so that unwanted messages are not displayed.

Search functionality also exists (we could probably do this by intergrating with Beagle.)

If the user wishes to reply to a previewed e.-mail, clicking on the header opens the full message in Evolution.

for future reference, please file enhancement bugs as enhancement.

Hello Andre,

Sorry for mis-filing this one. My only excuse is that I was putting in many, many requests for different things yesterday. :-(

Libnotify tells me I have new mail but I would like an always-accessible list of recent emails. Google Desktop's emails remain in the sidebar even after they are read, and are just pushed further and further down the list. I can click on the fly-out and read the whole message at any time, without having to switch back to my actual mail application.

It is an extremely convenient feature and one I "definitely could not live without" when forced to use Outlook/Windows.

Cheers,
