Description Tommi Komulainen 2006-08-27 17:53:52 UTC
gnome-screensaver 2.14.3-0ubuntu1

1. Set screensaver to activate after 5 minutes inactivity
2. Start playing oolite in fullscreen mode (http://oolite.aegidian.org/)

Actual result:
Every five minutes the screen fades and after few seconds returns back to normal regardless of constant keyboard(/mouse/joystick) activity. Screensaver or screenlock is not activated.

Expected result:
The screen does not fade nor does the screensaver or screenlock activate while playing.

Related:
If there has been no activity (game paused) the screensaver/lock activates. After unlocking all the text in the game is garbled, the graphics are unaffected.

This tends to occur when:

1. There is no input or the input from the game doesn't get detected by xorg/gnome-screensaver
2. The app/game grabs the keyboard

Every after screensaver timeout interval the screensaver tries to blank the screen and 10 seconds before that it performs a slow gamma fade out. If the app/game has grabbed the keyboard the screensaver will be unable to blank the screen, try a few times, and reset to try again after the same interval.

In HEAD we try to grab the keyboard before performing the slow gamma fade and don't fade if the grab fails. See bug #342728 for more information and a patch. This patch was too risky for the 2-14 branch.

I have no idea why the text should be garbled - that is likely a bug in the game.
