GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 352979
Don't show "Not Junk" button in the toolbar if junk mail disappears
Last modified: 2013-09-12 23:54:40 UTC
For context, see: http://mces.blogspot.com/2006/08/evolution-1.html In short: in my normal use of Evo, if I click on the Junk button on the toolbar, the mail disappears. So, there's just no chance that I can ever click on "Not Junk" in normal folders. Similarly, in the "Junk" folder, there's no chance I can click on the "Junk" button, as "Not Junk"ing mails make them disappear again. One of the Junk and Not Junk buttons simply shouldn't be there. This is legitimate for the following reasons: 1) HIG are guidelines, not rules. 2) Nowhere in HIG says that the toolbar buttons for a special folder like Junk cannot be different from those in normal folders. This is actually already the case for other behaviors, like double-clicking on a mail. Normally that will open a view of the mail in a window, but in the Drafts folder, it opens a composer window. Is that an HIG violation too?
Behdad, HIG isnt the only issue here. Atleast, I felt this and merged it and we reverted the merged button in late 2.14 cyle for some points by guenther. CCing him.
This appears to be a similar issue to Bug 257091.
From my point of view the "Not Junk" button is good there to learn ham, though the Junk button in Junk folder really doesn't make much sense. Also, because we can do the same with menu, then the toolbar can be changed. Matt, what do you think with respect of de-bonobo branch?
@Milan: Would definitely be easier to fix with GtkUIManager than BonoboUI. @Srini: For my own information, what were guenther's points on this? I'd support this if for no other reason than our toolbar could use some decluttering for easier use at low resolutions.

Proposing WONTFIX as "Not Junk" is needed to learn ham.
Correct, WONTFIX.
