Description Michael Wood 2006-08-22 12:42:04 UTC
Please describe the problem:
On a setup using xinerama I have found that the gnome-screenshot tool does not capture the image from both displays. Instead you just get a black box where the image of the second screen should be.

Steps to reproduce:
1. setup xinerama
2. log into gnome
3. press "Print Screen"

Actual results:
The screenshot is produced in the normal way, but there is a black box where the secondary/other screen should be

Expected results:
I would expect the screenshot to have the two images of the screens joined together as one image.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

I originally opened this bug some time ago. I have found it to be fixed in subsequent version of Gnome, although I have not tested it recently. This bug can likely be tested and marked as fixed relatively quickly.

Screen shot of problem

Evidence of bug.

mallchin@blueyonder.co.uk , I believe your issue was a different issue (which is why i opened this bug)
Comment 3 mallchin 2006-08-25 12:31:06 UTC
Yes, this appears different then my bug.
Comment 4 Christof Krüger 2006-09-30 14:26:45 UTC
I have a similar bug with Ubuntu Edgy Beta. The difference is that it's not a black box but transparent on the right side. It is saved as transparent when saving as png-file.

However, using Alt+Print for a window that is on the right monitor works perfectly.
Comment 5 Bo Hansen Hansen 2006-10-26 11:26:36 UTC
I can confirm this bug. I am on the latest Edgy, and have a asymmetrical dual monitor set up using Xinerama (Primary: 1024x768, Secondary: 1280x960).

When [Prt Scr] is pressed, gnome-screenshot starts and shows the attached shot. [Alt]+[Prt Scr] works on both screens.

Comment 8 Christof Krüger 2007-01-21 14:25:48 UTC

Comment 9 Emmanuele Bassi (:ebassi) 2007-01-21 14:27:58 UTC

Comment 10 mallchin 2007-01-21 16:52:36 UTC
I'm tickled this is still active, I opened it some 3 or more years ago. Still not fixed? :)
Comment 11 Christian Kirbach 2007-01-21 17:14:29 UTC
reproducable across distributions, confimning report

retitling slightly
Comment 12 Ritesh Khadgaray ( irc:ritz) 2007-01-21 18:39:45 UTC
yes, reproducible on rawhide with asymmetric xinerama display setup. strangely, gimp works w.r.t. desktop screenshot.

Comment 14 Bastien Nocera 2007-04-11 19:09:01 UTC
This should actually be easy to fix. We already know the display to use, we just need to capture the root window for each screen. The only hard bit is stitching all the screens back together, and knowing the layout of those.
Comment 15 Edward Hervey 2007-05-05 14:10:03 UTC
confirmed on gnome 2.18.1 / gentoo with a GeForce 7600GS with 2 x 1680x1050 screens.
Comment 16 Hal Ashburner 2008-06-02 13:06:21 UTC
duplicate of bug 166485 ?

I believe this bug is a duplicate of :
   http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=166485

Which contains a patch which resolves this issue AFAICS :)
