GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 350825
No way to get 24-hour times in e-mail summary screen (i.e. locale-compliant date format)
Last modified: 2009-07-03 09:13:23 UTC
Distribution: Debian testing/unstable Package: Evolution Severity: Normal Version: GNOME2.14.3 2.6.x Gnome-Distributor: Debian Synopsis: No way to get 24-hour times in e-mail summary screen (i.e. locale-compliant date format) Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Summary [was My Evolution] Bugzilla-Version: 2.6.x Description: Description of Problem: I hate 12-hour clocks and the AM/PM suffix -- sooooo kludgy (like the English system of measurements and units). I also want the date/time representation in the overview to allow leading zeroes (e.g. 2006-08-10 08:22:34), so that all dates/times will line up, but this is less important.. Since there is no setting for date/time format in the "Mail" portion of Evolution (though there is an option that only pertains to the Calendar feature -- go figure!), I am trying to get this by setting the locale (via LC_TIME, LANG, etc..) prior to starting Evolution. However, the date format in the e-mail summary screen does not change. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Ensure that a locale that uses a 24-hour clock exists on your system (e.g. "en_GB.utf8"). Use "localegen" (or "dpkg-reconfigure locales" under Debian) as needed. 2. Start Evolution from the command line using the command "LC_TIME=en_GB.utf8 evolution" (in "csh"/"tcsh", use "setenv LC_TIME en_GB.utf8", followed by "evolution"). Actual Results: The e-mail summary screen shows dates like "25 Jul 5:05 PM". Although this is "compliant" w.r.t. date/month order, it is not compliant w.r.t 12/24 hour clock. Expected Results: That date should be "25 Jul 17:05" How often does this happen? Every time. Additional Information: Try changing other environment variables used by the C library to identify the locale, such as "LANG", "LC_LANG". Same result. ------- Bug created by bug-buddy at 2006-08-11 00:33 -------
