Please describe the problem:
When you are editing a piece of text file with gedit, you will find the shortcut keys don't work. You can not access File menu with Alt+F to expand the File menu.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start gedit.
2. Edit a new text file.
3. Press Alt+F to expand the File menu.

Actual results:
Charactor "f" will be in the text area.

Expected results:
"File" menu should be opened after you press Alt+F.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
This bug can be found on gnome 2.14 with gedit 2.14.3.
