Description Mark Cowley 2006-07-31 01:14:44 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Contacts that are automatically added to the address book when replied to are not searchable under either the "Name begins with" search bar in the contacts view, or by typing the name in a To/Cc field which normally pattern matches for the first/surname. They can however be found by searching for their name in the "any field contains" search box.

I've checked that the contact records seems to be correct in that the first name/sur name/email address are in the correct locations.

Steps to reproduce:
1. reply to a message from someone that wasn't in your address book ("Joe Bloggs" <joe@bloggs.com>)
2. compose a new message and start typing in Joe or Bloggs or joe@bloggs.com
3. goto contacts view and search for Joe or Bloggs in the search line

Actual results:
steps 2 and 3: the Joe Bloggs user is not found automatically, even though he has been added to the address book and you can see his name when you look at all of your contacts, and he can be found by searching in the "any field contains" section of the contacts viewer.

Expected results:
I'd expect the email address/contact to automatically be found and either displayed if searching in the contacts viewer, or the email address to be inserted into the to/cc field when composing a new email

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
adding new contacts via New > Contact (Ctrl+N) works fine, and the new contact is searchable via normal methods.

Mark, I believe this issue is caused by bug 338710 as well.

Also, I assume your "Replied to" contacts are added automatically to the "Personal" named default Address Book, right? Please try this workaround, that should fix your issue right now:

Address Book Component, select the "On this Computer / Personal" Address Book. Right click on it, select Properties from the context menu. Enable the option to "Mark as default folder". OK.

After doing so, your automatically added Contacts should be available for autocompletion even without re-starting Evo. (Note that re-starting Evo should work anyway.)

Can you please test this?

If I am wrong, and this does not fix your issue, please feel free to re-open this report instantly. Thanks.
