Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2006-07-19 23:46:41 UTC
When one comes across text with a large number of repeated characters, such as this line:

-------- Forwarded Message --------

It would be nice for Orca to not read every last one of the characters. Perhaps the setting could be:

Given more than 3 of the same character in a row, only speak 3 of those characters. So the above sample would be read as

--- Forwarded Message ---

I think this should be a verbosity option (on or off) in case the user wants to examine the true line using speech.

I also don't think this is as significant an issue in terms of braille, because one can quickly scroll the display. But if implementing the above request, I'd probably check with a braille reader rather than taking my word for it. :)

This would be a very nice feature. Rich and I talked about this a couple weeks ago and decided that we should work on it post 1.0.

This is also in our user experience requirements documentation: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/*checkout*/orca/docs/doc-set/orca.html#URSPEECH.
