GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 347525
CMYK support
Last modified: 2006-07-14 15:27:46 UTC
I have not bug rather some points of enhancements for further versions. Let me introduce my self I am texture artist of Team UnrealSP.org, currently working on UT modification Battle for Na Pali. I decidet to move from Photoshop to GIMP and made GIMP my (and teams) development graphics application due to simple fact if I made something in an "amateur" way there is beter to support other "amateurs" in their work. But I encountered several obstacles. 1) as I wrote above in summarfy I found that GIMP curently do not support CMYK. well I am not sure if somebody else mentioned this before, but the absence of CMYK makes GIMP only half of an photo (and not only photo) editor. I think that I am not only one texture artist or simmilar image-manipulator whom uses the CMYK to add a bit more richness and "3D" look to textures. I use the combination of convert to CMYK and add brightness, contrast enhaced greyscale pic to K chanel of converted pic. but I am unable to do this in gimp due to: 1) absence of CMYK format 2) I have not find way how to copy image to channel (but this may be only my fault) I would be glad If you could add this to Gimp/GTK (hopefully there are no stupid licensies/propreatary formats denying this) If you could do this for (not only) me (but rather many other users of GIMP) I definitely move to GIMP and make GIMP UnrealSP oficial texture making tool. which gives you possitive referee on GIMP. ----------- Additionaly, but not needed now (maybe in future) could somebody write import/export pluggin for DDS format (DXT texturtes or S3TC) Thanks. I appreciate your Work on GIMP and other opensource programs. Thanks for your report, unfortunately it is not really helpful in its current form - the major problem being multiple problems reported in one bugreport. However, the CMYK problem is indeed well known and there is bug #123598 for this. It is possible to copy e.g. a grayscale version of the image into a channel, this is not the place to discuss this though. If you need help using GIMP please use the gimp-user mailing list for this or look at the extensive documentation at http://docs.gimp.org/en/ or http://docs.gimp.org/cs/ There seems to be a plugin for DDS available at http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/dds/ - this hopefully helps you. Since CMYK is the main issue mentioned in the title I am closing this one as a duplicate of bug #123598 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 123598 ***
