Description Tomasz Janowitz 2006-07-11 13:01:44 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I have one app in fullscreen mode (via F11 or metacity's 'toggle fullscreen') and ... amarok, which is focused (but not in full screen), I pick "fetch from amazon.com" from the album cover right click menu, as soon as the proposed cover is fetched and popped up in a new window focus is being lost to the fullscreen app. Focus should stay with amarok. I can't reproduce it with any other app and popping window.

Steps to reproduce:
1. bring app to full screen mode
2. give amarok focus
3. pick "fetch from amazon.com" from cover right click menu

Actual results:
focus is being lost to app which is in fullscreen mode

Expected results:
see the fetched cover, with amarok still in focus

Does this happen every time?
yeap

Other information:
This pertains amarok, but I think the root of the problem may be somewhere in WM. Another thing is that this bug (if it is at all a metacity bug) somewhat resembles bug nr. 308322, but I don't know if culprit of this behaviour is the same in both cases.

Yeah, looks like the same bug. To verify, can you run
  xprop | grep "\(_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE\|TRANSIENT\)"
in a terminal, then click on the window popped up by amarok, then report the result here?
Comment 2 Tomasz Janowitz 2006-07-11 22:42:12 UTC
_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE(ATOM) = _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_UTILITY, _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DIALOG
WM_TRANSIENT_FOR(WINDOW): window id # 0x2a0000d

Hope this helps :)

Ouch, sounds like a different bug. I'll add a note in the other bug since they do look somewhat related, though.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
