GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 346127
Stopping DBUS quits/crashes RB
Last modified: 2008-08-14 23:29:21 UTC
Please describe the problem: RB doesn't seem to like when DBUS daemon is stopped Steps to reproduce: 1. stop/restart dbus service 2. 3. Actual results: rhythmbox quits/crashes Expected results: Does this happen every time? Yes. Exception is when RB is started when DBUS is on stopped state already, restarting dbus has no effect then. Other information:
On Ubuntu I can trigger this by doing sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart
Confirming that this happens on my (Ubuntu 6.06LTS) machine too.
I can reproduce this on Dapper but not Edgy, and the backtraces from Dapper are usually inside HAL. I'm fairly certain this has been fixed with newer versions of DBus/HAL; has anyone seen this with very recent Dbus/HAL?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DbusRestart For me, RB exits when dbus shuts down, rather than crashing. Not that that's much better.
I just had Rhythmbox _start_ playback when I restarted DBUS but I cannot reproduce the behaviour. It was minimized to the notification area at the time. This was with Rhythmbox 0.9.6 on Ubuntu Edgy.
