GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 343644
GnuCash too eager to add Imbalance-USD account
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:06:34 UTC
After hitting Enter to enter a split (rather than the entire transaction), an Imbalance-USD account is created for the running imbalance rather than waiting until the entire transaction is entered and the user says "to enter a balancing item" to the dialog that appears. GnuCash 1.8 did not do this. Please do not create accounts unless asked to do so by the user. I tried deleting the Imbalance-USD account, but it was immediately re-created. I therefore gave it an account code of 9999 to hide it at the end for now.

Yes, I had seen #117228 but I thought that bug was about not bringing up the imbalance dialog after confirming the entire transaction. This one is about automatically adding a transaction while entering split transactions. If what you are saying is that an imbalance dialog will be brought up for each and every split item you enter, I will report a bug since that will be *very* annoying when entering splits with many items. Thanks.
Bill, I too have been struggling with the new "feature" of gnucash that keeps trying to automatically add a split to the "Imbalance-USD" account. This is particularly annoying when you are cloning a transaction and changing the amount. In gnucash < 1.9.0, I had alwas relied on "enter" to pop up the "imbalanced transaction" dialog, but now that dialog is no longer there. However, I have discovered that if you leave the first split with the "Tab" key instead of "Enter", then you get a chance to edit the oher split without creating the annoying "Imbalance-USD" split.
The down arrow works well too.
