GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 343001
the keyboard options dialog could make clear why there is no option listed when the server used has no XKB
Last modified: 2009-01-21 11:36:16 UTC
That suggestion has been made on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/44846 "To reproduce, log in as a user, then as another via XNest (gdmflexiserver --xnest). In the XNest window, bring up the keyboard properties window. Works fine with a normal new user login (gdmflexiserver). ... > Thanks for your bug. That because Xnest doesn't provide an XKB interface, you can read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=148891 about that. Reassigning as a wishlist for xnest ... > Fair enough, but this then identifies a problem in gnome-keyboard-properties - if there are no layout options available, either don't display a tab or provide an informative message, otherwise it looks to the user like a bug, not an unavailable option :)"
Ressigning to gswitchit which is the applet for Keyboard Indicator (either right-click on the panel, "Add to panel..." or invoked from "System/Settings/Keyboard".
the dialog is gnome-keyboard-properties and a capplet from control-center, reassigning to it
OK. Valid point. The only question is: did you build libxklavier with XKB or not at all?
that's on Ubuntu, libkxlavier is built with "--with-xkb-base=/etc/X11/xkb --enable-doxygen"
Sebastien, I just checked - the "Layout Options" popup in Xnest contains options for the layout switching. Should we close that bug?
