GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 342997
volume keybindings are not working
Last modified: 2007-02-04 11:01:51 UTC
Please describe the problem: Typing the keys bound to volume up, volume down, and mute don't do anything. While, the playback keys all work fine controlling rhythmbox. They were working fine in Fedora Core 4, but no longer work in Fedora Core 5. There are several bugreports in the Fedora bugzilla but i believe this issue is GNOME related, thus i'm reporting it here. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=187572 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=184561 Steps to reproduce: 1. System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts 2. select keys for Volume Up, Down and Mute. 3. press those keys Actual results: Nothing happens Expected results: The volume should go up/down or mute. In FC4 there was a progress bar that appeared at the middle of the screen showing the volume level. Does this happen every time? Yes happens every time. Other information:
Hello? anyone reading this bug reports?
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 336783 ***
As discovered in bug 336783, I was wrong about this being a duplicate; reopening.
I believe this bug is related to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7095 . That bug report is about one specific duplicate keysym to keycode mapping, but there appear to be many instances of duplicates in the latest xkb database. Could people experiencing this issue post the output of "xmodmap -pke | grep XF86Audio", as well as which keyboard model you have selected (from System -> Preferences -> Keyboard, Layouts tab)? This will reveal if there are duplicate keysyms defined for the audio keys. It has now been accepted upstream that duplicates in the xkb database are a problem, but each case may need to be fixed individually.
Closing this bug report as no further information has been provided. Please feel free to reopen this bug if you can provide the information asked for. Thanks!
