Description gnu 2006-05-10 23:11:54 UTC
Please describe the problem:
This PDF file is a document that was originally sent to a judge as an official
court submission. The judge used some kind of tool to annotate the document,
crossing out "Proposed", and signing the document at the bottom. The problem
in evince 0.1.5 (and gpdf, but not xpdf) is that these annotations ARE NOT VISIBLE
when the document is displayed.

(By the way, the GNOME version is Debian Sarge's. There is no System menu
and the right button on the Panel doesn't bring up any way to find a version
number.)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get the test case file (I hope it lets me enter it below!)
2. Display the file with "evince amicusorder.pdf"
3. Look for strikeout over "Proposed" in two places on first page, and for
obvious signature on the signature line on the second page. If missing, you
still have the bug.

Actual results:
I don't see the judge's annotations -- thus the meaning of the document is
changed. It appears to be a "proposed order" but it is actually a "real order"
from the judge!

Expected results:
I should see the judge's annotations.

(This document is part of the official electronic court record for a major court
case. Within a few years, every court case will require electronic filing. If
people who use GNOME are going to see incorrect versions of documents from
official US federal court records, then lots of people aren't going to be able
to use GNOME. You have to be able to trust your document viewer!)

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
The test file is at URL:

  http://www.eff.org/legal/cases/att/amicusorder.pdf

In case they move it around, the document is a 16018-byte file, reached via
a "May 8, 2006" link entitled "Order granting Mark Klein leave to file amicus
brief", on this page:

That is the real task and we have it for Summer of Code, so I hope it will be implemented soon.
