X-Mailer: bug-buddy 2.12.1
Subject: Inconsistent menus with nntp (news) support - especially "New"

Distribution: Ubuntu 5.10 (breezy)
Package: Evolution
Priority: Normal
Version: GNOME2.12.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Inconsistent menus with nntp (news) support - especially "New"
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: UI
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Please describe your feature request:

The "New" (compose a new mail message) button i context-sensitive. If
you're in Mail, you get a new mail message, in the calendar a new
appointment, etc.

This is not the case if you've chosen an news group (nntp-"folder").
Posting a new message to a news group is well hidden in the
"Message->Post new message to folder" menu. This is confusing and
extremely inconsistent.

This is also the case when trying to Followup a news posting. The
Reply-button should be called Followup (in deference to decades of
usenet terminology) and should do "Post a reply".

At present the nntp-UI seems like a quick add-on, and not a well
integrated component. This should be easy to adress given the existing
functionality, mostly with menu-redesign.

hi james,
thanks for taking the time to report this.

do you think this is a duplicate of bug 274117, or do you think that you mentioned something that is missing in bug 274117?

(for future reference: please do not use "Do Not Use - UI".) thanks in advance. :-)
Comment 2 james.baum 2006-05-05 05:29:12 UTC
Except for naming conventions ("Followup" vs. "Reply", both are legitimate actions on a news item) this seems to be a duplicate.

And yes, I knew it probably wasn't corret to use the "Do Not Use - UI" but it was not only the most but the only appropriate category I found :D
Comment 3 André Klapper 2006-05-09 09:46:50 UTC
hehe, right... anyway, i'd recommend "mailer". :-)
okay, closing as duplicate and adding a comment to bug 274117.
