On my desktop, gweather starts before Network-manager gets a network connection, so gweather needs to be manually updated to get the weather displaying.

Could gweather use dbus to test for a network connection before trying to update the weather.  Evolution does something along these lines that sees it go off-line and on-line when the connect goes up and down, and this might be useful for gweather too.
