Description David Jaša 2006-04-01 10:11:09 UTC
Some files are tagged in artist field "Artist" and another ones "The Artist" .
There can be 2 essential issues with this:

1. Sorting in library: now "The Artist" is sorted among another artists
beginning with T, though should be sorted as "Artist, the" among A artists
2. If there are are more albums, one tagged as "Artist" and another as "The
Artist" - this may cause splitting one artist into two (unfortunately I myself
don't have it confirmed)

Proposed solution: Treat "Artist" and "The Artist" as the same one and use
"Artist, the" form while sorting

This is a duplicate of bug 133444.

It hasn't been done yet because a naive implemention will cause internationalisation issues, and has the potential to horribly break when the user has tracks in a non-English language.

The real solution is to use "sorting tags", such as MusicBrainz provides. No-one has implemented this yet.
