Description Kevin Kubasik 2006-03-15 02:18:14 UTC
When nautilus attempts to preview a large animated gif (provided below) it locks up for several minutes, then crashes and restarts.

Happens here too.
The thumbnailers eats all RAM, then starts swapping everything, the oom-killer starts killing until the thumbnailer is killed.

Somehow there should be a memory cap ?

Updated some severity info, as this is starting to become a serious issue with nautilus use for me, I had to move all my animated gif's into their own folder that I don't view with nautilus. Nautilus needs to gracefuly notice when thumbnailing is probably not going to happen and stop.

However, since it handles extreamly large videos without issue, I am led to believe that this issue stems from nautilus assuming that all mimetypes image-gif are static, not animated.
