GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 333972
"Select Custom Icon" doesn't preview icons while browsing
Last modified: 2007-01-20 12:31:31 UTC
Well, that's it. Nautilus should definitely add this feature. When you want to change the icon of a Volume or shortcut or whatever, you should be able to see a preview of the icon on the folder you are browsing (not only /usr/share/pixmaps), perhaps on a small window beside the file listing. Another good idea is that when you want to change an icon, nautilus in stead of showing the old icons in /usr/share/pixmaps should show the new ones one has installed in the local folder (or at least give the user the chance of selecting a different iconset folder from where to search on). Other information:
I see that Nautilus now uses the standard Gtk file chooser for choosing a custom icon, instead of the old icon browser. And the preview works. On the other hand, now you see only that one icon in the preview; the other ones show only a small standard "this is an image" icon next to the filename. There are no thumbnails, and it is too hard to pick the icon you want. I find it easier to open the icon folder in a regular Nautilus window, and then use drag and drop it on the custom icon button in a file's properties dialog. Actually, now I'm wondering if this is a standard Nautilus feature, or a Ubuntu patch. I use Dapper (development version).
The original issue has been fixed with the use of the standard GtkFileChooser and the issue mentioned in comment #1 is a duplicate of bug 141154. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 141154 ***
