GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 333677
Totem can't find or play DVD
Last modified: 2006-03-09 16:59:02 UTC
Please describe the problem: Other DVD players can play DVD's. But I can't play any DVD's in totem. I tried uninstalling the totem, totem-gstreamer packages in Ubuntu Breezy Badger and reinstalling them but it made no difference. I get this error - "Failed to find mount point for device /dev/hdc in /etc/fstab" Strange the mount point is in fstab! I get the error no matter if the DVD is already mounted or not. Any ideas? Rob Steps to reproduce: 1. Put DVD in computer 2. Click Movie - Play Disc 3. Actual results: You get the error message - "Failed to find mount point for device /dev/hdc in /etc/fstab" Expected results: Start playing of DVD Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: There is no small icon beside "Play Disc" in Movie menu.
That's because of Ubuntu's pmount setup (we don't even look in /etc/fstab to tell the truth, we use gnome-vfs). Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 318401 ***
Thanks for the info. I just upgraded totem to v 1.2.1. I still have the same error. bug 318401 is marked fixed. Is there a released version of totem with th bug fix? What version of totem do I need? Rob
It should be fixed in 1.3.0 and above. If it still doesn't work, please file a bug with Ubuntu. Totem just uses gnome-vfs nowadays, so that would mean that gnome-vfs would be broken on Ubuntu wrt. volume management.
