Description Sebastien Bacher 2006-02-25 15:14:37 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/32193

"For both 5.10 (Breezy) and Dapper of 2005-2-20:

When opening http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/labs/learning/Theses/danar.phd.ps.gz with evince, it says there is only one page. Playing with scrollwheel a bit can bring us to next pages, but Evince insists that the total document contains 1 page.

ps2pdf can make an Evince-readable pdf of this document."
Comment 1 Nickolay V. Shmyrev 2006-02-25 19:57:01 UTC
This document is really broken, it has %DVIPSSection comments instead of %Page

There are many links about that in Google, for example please look at that one:

http://techdir.rutgers.edu/pdf.html
http://www.tug.org/pipermail/oztex/2005-February/000025.html

I suspect we don't wanna adopt to the non-standard ps files.
Comment 2 Sebastien Bacher 2006-02-25 22:25:53 UTC
gnome-gv opens it fine, users don't care about the .ps beeing weird, they just note a feature regression compared to previous software they use, KDE, windows or whatever. Anyway that's your call, you are upstream for it
Comment 3 Nickolay V. Shmyrev 2006-02-25 22:29:14 UTC
Sebastien, are you sure ggv works fine here? Mine doesn't. What is your version of ggv then?
Comment 4 Sebastien Bacher 2006-02-25 22:44:00 UTC
gnome-gv is 2.12.0. Clicking on "next page" is possible but "previous page" doesn't work
Comment 5 Christian Persch 2006-02-26 18:38:27 UTC
This is happening for me with documents printed to file (using a ps print driver) from windows; there's no %Page in those files either. GGV allows to view all pages; evince does only show the first page. However, unexpectedly, evince can *print* all pages!
Comment 6 Nickolay V. Shmyrev 2006-02-26 18:44:28 UTC
chpe: can you attach file also then?
Comment 7 Calum Benson 2006-03-01 13:17:21 UTC
It seems that historically there's also been something in Sun's tool chain that produced these "broken" PS files... I have a few here (that I can't attach unfortunately, as they're marked Sun Confidential). Since we'll be shipping evince in the next version of Solaris JDS, it would be a bummer if we and our customers couldn't use it to read our own documents :/

test document

Test document printed from Word into file; 3 pages but evince only shows the 1st page (but Print will print all 3 pages!). ggv allows to view all three pages.

I have the same problem with this document: http://www.cs.ucsb.edu/~urs/oocsb/self/papers/self-power.html

This bug is still reproducible in Evince 2.22 and Evince 2.28.
Comment 13 Timmy Shih Jun Yee 2010-08-23 10:24:28 UTC
This bug also occurs in Okular, so I think this is a libspectre bug.

I've reported it at freedesktop.org's bugzilla:
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29749

Please close this bug. Thanks!
