Description Josselin Mouette 2006-02-23 10:40:30 UTC
According to file headers, the following file is licensed under the GPL:
libgnomevfs/gnome-vfs-mime-monitor.c

As I understand it, this goes against the policy of making all libraries LGPL. Some programs using gnome-vfs will violate the license if they aren't under a GPL-compatible license.
Comment 1 Christian Neumair 2006-02-23 10:57:53 UTC
Thanks for bringing this up, good catch!

I'm milestoning this to 2.14 and pushing its priority.
We have to make sure to get the relicensing agreement from all authors.

http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnome-vfs/libgnomevfs/gnome-vfs-mime-monitor.c?annotate=1.16

Authors involved (order as they appear):
John Sullivan <sullivan@eazel.com>
Jonathan Blandford <jrb@redhat.com>
Christophe Fergeau <teuf@gnome.org>
Michael Meeks <michael.meeks@novell.com>
Seth Nickell <seth@gnome.org>
Alexander Larsson <alexl@redhat.com>

Pavel Cisler <pavel@eazel.com> (according to http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnome-vfs/libgnomevfs/gnome-vfs-mime-monitor.c?r1=1.1&r2=1.2 nothing changed, but maybe viewcvs ignores whitespace changs).
Comment 2 Christian Neumair 2006-02-23 11:05:54 UTC
I've also informed the involved authors by email.
Comment 3 Christian Neumair 2006-02-23 11:07:55 UTC
Looks like none of the eazel authors can be reached by email. If anybody is able to get in touch with them, please do so.
Comment 4 Michael Meeks 2006-02-23 11:39:22 UTC
Christian I didn't get your E-mail; but of course it goes without saying that any Novell contribution here was intended to be under the LGPL, and so any contribution of ours should be licensed accordingly. Thanks.
Comment 5 Alexander Larsson 2006-02-23 12:46:16 UTC
Looks fine to me.

John Sullivan is now sullivan@apple.com
I think Pavel is at Apple too, but i couldn't find his email address.
Comment 6 Seth Nickell 2006-02-23 18:24:34 UTC
I'm happy relicensing the file to LGPL
Comment 7 Christophe Fergeau 2006-02-24 08:17:22 UTC
Fine with me too.
Comment 8 Jonathan Blandford 2006-02-24 12:40:28 UTC
The intent was clearly LGPL. Fine with me.
Comment 9 Kjartan Maraas 2006-03-07 15:42:21 UTC
Could it be that pavel could be reached here: pavel at el34 com?
Comment 10 Josselin Mouette 2006-04-03 19:59:19 UTC
Any progress in getting news from John Sullivan and Pavel Cisler? Should I try to contact them myself?

Hello Josselin,

I have no problem relicensing that as LGPL.

Thanks!

Pavel
