Description David Prieto 2006-02-14 09:12:22 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I'm not sure this bug belongs in Ephy, but I didn't know where else to post it.

The thing is, when I drag a link from ephy to the desktop and then I click the
link on the desktop firefox opens it, not ephy, although ephy is my default
browser. Same thing happens when you open your mail from gaim: it opens in
firefox. But when you click a link on a gaim comversation it opens with ephy.

I just noticed this: if you move the link to the gnome-panel (instead of the
desktop) it is opened with Ephy, just try and you'll see.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a URL
2. drag the icon on the location bar to the desktop, to create a link.
3. click the link

Actual results:
firefox opens the link.

Expected results:
epiphany sould open the link, since it's the default browser.

Does this happen every time?
yes.

Other information:
If you follow those steps instead:

1. open a URL
2. drag the icon on the location bar to the gnome panel, to create a link.
3. click the link

It will open in epiphany, not firefox.

I suppose text/html is associated with epiphany. Try right clicking the file, properties, open with, choose epiphany, close and see if you can reproduce.

Having Ephy open http://... urls is not the same as having Ephy open text/html MIME types on disk.
Comment 2 Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2006-02-14 09:19:10 UTC
Ehm, the first sentence should've read: "I support text/html is associated with Firefox."
Comment 3 David Prieto 2006-02-14 09:28:22 UTC
"Having Ephy open http://... urls is not the same as having Ephy open text/html
MIME types on disk."

I think I didn't make myself clear:

Dragging the location bar doesn't SAVE the webpage so they're never on disk. Dragging just links the webpage. The resulting icon is treated as a link, and thus the "open with" option is not available.

$ cat Bug\ 331106\ -\ Ephy\ is\ default\ but\ links\ open\ with\ firefox.desktop [Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=link to Bug 331106 - Ephy is default but links open with firefox
Type=Link

Icon=gnome-fs-bookmark

The default GNOME browser should start that one. Try "gnome-open http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331106" (or another URL) and see if that works...
Comment 5 David Prieto 2006-02-14 09:36:34 UTC
Epiphany opens that one, it is my default gnome browser, indeed.

But yet links on the desktop open on firefox.
Comment 6 Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2006-02-14 09:38:39 UTC
I cannot reproduce. Sorry.

What nautilus version, what gnome-vfs version ? what does it say when you run "gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command" ?
Comment 8 David Prieto 2006-02-14 09:50:11 UTC
david@frandavid100:~$ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command
epiphany -n %s
david@frandavid100:~$

epiphany 1.9.6

gnome 2.13.91

Hope it can help.
Comment 9 Crispin Flowerday (not receiving bugmail) 2006-02-14 09:54:40 UTC
again, what nautilus and gnome-vfs version do you have ?
Comment 10 David Prieto 2006-02-14 09:59:43 UTC
Sorry, I completely missed that one.

I have nautilus 2.13.91, and I'm not sure how to check the gnome-vfs version. when entering gnome-vfs on Synaptic I get some libraries like libgnome-vfs-dev and such, and all of them are at version 1.0.5-5-3. Sorry, I don't know if that's what you mean.
Comment 11 Crispin Flowerday (not receiving bugmail) 2006-02-14 10:11:41 UTC
Right, ok, so Debian or Ubuntu :-) what I want then is the version of the libgnomevfs2-0 package.
Comment 12 David Prieto 2006-02-14 10:21:34 UTC
OK then, libgnomevfs2-0 is 2.13.91-0ubuntu1

I don't need to tell I'm using Ubuntu :)
Comment 13 Crispin Flowerday (not receiving bugmail) 2006-02-14 11:31:55 UTC
Ok, if you create a .html file, and right click it, what is the first program in the list ? If it is firefox, select Properties, Open With, and change it to Epiphany
Comment 14 David Prieto 2006-02-14 12:10:29 UTC
Yes, that solved the question for me. But shouldn't this be done automatically when changing the default browser?

Maybe the bug should be moved over to Nautilus?
Comment 15 Crispin Flowerday (not receiving bugmail) 2006-02-14 12:13:15 UTC
Indeed
