Description Jon Dufresne 2006-01-13 19:45:08 UTC
Please describe the problem:
If a new file is create on the desktop and it contains a long file name it is
created at the extreme edge of the desktop and part of the filename and icon
exist off of the desktop. This does not happen if the file has a small filename

Steps to reproduce:
1. $ cd ~/Desktop
2. $ touch file1
3. notice nothing is wrong
4. $ touch file2withreallylongfilename
5. notice part of the filename is off the screen

Actual results:
the icon doesn't fall where it should. Instead it falls at the edge of the
screen with the filename part way off the screen

Expected results:
I expect the file to to a similar place as if the filename was short. The file1
in the case above.

Does this happen every time?
only whene there are few icons on the left of the screen. This way nautilus
tries to place it on the left, and misses.

Other information:
I am running ubuntu 5.10 with the nautilus from the apt repositories.

This is a screenshot of the bug. I have not moved the files since they were created.

I've been seeing this bug for the recent years, too. There was a similar bug#103225 "new files on the edge of the desktop mis-aligned", which was supposedly fixed.

Maybe the icon alignment routine fails if the filename is wrapped?
