GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 32646
Rotate Tasklist text in side panels
Last modified: 2007-06-26 17:17:14 UTC
Package: Gnome Tasklist Version: 1.2.3.1 Severity: wishlist I usually have my panel on the side of the screen. I've realized that one feature would be very useful... if the entries in Gnome Tasklist were rotated 90 degrees one way or another. Then, all of the entries would be readable, as they are when the tasklist is on the bottom or top of the screen. (It would probably be best if the bottom of the text always faces towards the middle of the screen, when the panel is along the side.) Beyond making the task list much more readable, I think it would also be excellent eye-candy. :) Thanks for considering this suggestion! I think I'm mistakenly classifying most enhancements as "Low Priority." Sorry for this, and sorry for the spam.
No problem. Actually, thank you for reminding me about this enhancement. Actually, now I think this should be bumped up to a higher priority or severity. (Not sure which.) I've changed my mind because the tasklist items are totally unreadable in the current state... you have to click on an entry to see what it says. So, I think that the current orientation of the entries is a bug rather than a feature. :) Currently the text is unreadable, and that's got to be a problem from a human interface point of view. (I won't change the priority, though... I'll leave that for the maintainers to do if they think this is a good idea.) Later, John
Moving to libwnck, but IIRC the tasklist widegt doesn't actually know anything about its orientation
this can't be done with core X fonts (in GTK 2.4 timeframe we're deprecating those and may also add support for text rotation to pango)
Any news on this now?
Recent versions of gtk+ support rotated text, i.e. gtk_label_set_angle().
ignore this, helping out vincent with something.
Marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 86382 because bug 86382 has a lot more people cc'ed there and I'll attach some patches there. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 86382 ***
