Description Omer 2005-12-31 09:38:32 UTC
Please describe the problem:
While trying to import photos from a folder, F-Spot fails to load the folder's
contents.
After browsing a bit in the folder, and removing the video files, F-Spot loads
the folder just fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Take a few pictures and videos with you digital camera.
2. Try to import the photos folder on the camera.

Actual results:
Nothing. F-Spot seems to be loading the folder, but then, no photos appear.

Expected results:
Folder contents should be loaded any way, even if there are unidentified files
in the folder.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
F-Spot 0.1.5, Mono 1.1.12 on Ubuntu Dapper Drake.
Camera is Canon PowerShot S200.
Video format is AVI.
This could also be a feature request, abilty to import videos.

No matter, F-Spot should at least import the photos, and
1) Silently skip the videos
2) Inform that there are videos present, but we are not copying those
3) Copy the video files as well to...
   a) Same directory structure?
   b) Different root directory? Videos?
   c) User definable in Preferences

I would recommend 3a or possible 3c

the actual bug this is referring to was fixed a long time ago I think
Comment 4 Bengt Thuree 2006-02-25 08:34:50 UTC
Larry, you are correct.
I just connected my cabel to my Canon S70 and imported (by using F-Spot) all its JPG and AVI files. No problems. The AVI files do not show up in F-Spot, but they do exists in the Photos directory though.

Recommend to close this one.
Comment 5 Ryan Hayle 2006-03-06 01:56:19 UTC
Is that using CVS? Using 0.1.10, and importing from a local folder, it does NOT copy avi or wav files, which I'm glad I discovered as I already deleted one folder without saving the audio files manually. Luckily I still had them on a memory card. :)
I want to see solution 3a above which should allow for a very smooth transition once f-spot supports integrated audio & video.
Comment 6 Bengt Thuree 2006-03-06 02:55:05 UTC
I used CVS to verify this.
Comment 7 Bengt Thuree 2006-05-18 04:51:35 UTC
Is this still a problem?
Could you try using the latest CVS.
Comment 8 Bengt Thuree 2006-05-23 06:28:09 UTC
Ok, I tested again with latest CVS.

I had a directory with oen IMG_1075.AVI, and one IMG_1075.THM file among 99 photos.

The 99 photos were imported fine, but the AVI and THM files were not.
Total imported items: 99 photos, 0 movies. (of 101 possible items)

I do not have a cable so I can connect my camera here, so I can not confirm (again) that importing these files works fine directly from the camera.
Perhaps someone else can do that?

Changing title to reflect this.

I confirm the bug on the f-spot-0.1.11-2 debian package. I had videos on my camera and they were not imported.
Comment 12 Ryan Hayle 2006-07-28 15:44:39 UTC
It's not supposed to import videos (yet). This is not a bug report, it's a feature request. Hope someone changes it since it would be very convenient to see this feature added.

Description should be:

Comment 15 Scott Zawalski 2007-02-15 23:48:59 UTC
This problem still exists even in the current CVS as of today, Feb 15th 2007.

Here is an example of a directory I imported from my camera for testing:

cowbud@udc ~/Pictures/2007/2007$ find . | grep avi
./02/15/mvi_0814.avi
./02/15/mvi_0785.avi
./02/15/mvi_0781.avi
cowbud@udc ~/Pictures/2007/2007$

Notice how the avi files are there. Now when I import that folder into a different directory:

cowbud@udc ~/Photos$ find . | grep avi
cowbud@udc ~/Photos$

I get nothing, there are jpegs in there but no video files.

I think this bug can be closed. Importing from directories where video files are stored in, works fine.
Comment 17 Ruben Vermeersch 2010-07-23 07:18:34 UTC
Closing, we have a bug on video support. The fact that videos don't get imported is normal until that one is fixed :-).
