GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 324174
Formating cells should allow choosing 'engineering notation'
Last modified: 2005-12-15 14:25:02 UTC
Version details: 1.5.90 Debian Distribution/Version: Knoppix installed to harddisk (Debian) I suggest that Gnumeric allow cell formatting to be in 'engineering notation'. Explanation follows: Presenting numbers in engineering notation is commonly used by engineers (yes), as they like units like mili, micro, kilo, mega and so on, and numbers are generally easier to compare if they have the same 'unit'; for example 13E-3 and 1.3E-3 instead of 1.3E-2 and 1.3E-3. Engineering notation is like 'scientific notation', execept only powers N*3 are used, e.g. 103E-03, 22E6, 12E-12 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineering_notation
