GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 322800
Advanced song/playlist management
Last modified: 2006-06-06 23:00:49 UTC
It would be nice if more advanced playlist management was implemented. IE, if the user could create some sort of formula or function for the playlist. For example, Linda wants to play all songs from Dvorak, Chopin, and Lifehouse but for Lifehouse, only their self-titled album. "Play only" feature: It would also be nice if the user could choose to play only one song. The most obvious way (to me, at least) would be to simply have this be an extension of the search/filter function but be accessed via a right-click for a song. Currently the search/filter function isn't always adequate for this when the music files have similiar words in their tags. Other information:
This too is already in the works. Try the Artist/Album Browser+Query Builder patch from Ulaas. It's on the mailing list: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/banshee-list/2005-December/msg00004.html Advanced seaching and smart playlists will allow you to combine advanced matching against any number of fields with different boolean operators, all with an understandable UI ;)
The first revision of a smart playlists plugin has landed in Banshee SVN. http://mail.gnome.org/archives/banshee-list/2006-March/msg00150.html This will eventually become an official plugin.

Moving to the Plugins component. This actually belongs in the user interface component, but we've got a smart playlist plugin now ;-)
